The Future of Fashion?

Year by year store footfall (the amount of customers shopping in store) decreases drastically. The reason for this? Online shopping. Why bother trekking to the shops when you know exactly what you want, can order it from the comfort of your sofa and return it (usually) free of charge if it doesn't fit? With the advances of online shopping also comes developments to increase the eases and enjoyment with which you shop. Enter Mallzee...

Something that has always been missing from the world of online shopping is the social element - it's more of a solitary process. Mallzee is a fashion app created both for iphone and ipad. It allows the user to share a prospective purchase with friends where they can vote 'yes' or 'no' to said item. Therefore Vito-ing the product if all dislike it. Kind of like a friendly fashion conscience!

Mallzees online shop includes clothing from brands such as Asos Reiss and House of Holland. In my opinion, the best feature of Mallzee is it's ability to form fashion profiles from your likes and dislikes. All you have to do is swipe left to like an item of clothing and right to dislike and Mallzee will automatically suggest clothing from a huge database of stores to match your preferences. Hence the app manages to remove all of the hassle of trawling through endless pages of things you don't like to find something you do. Perfect for a stress-free online shopping experience.

The sign in page does present a few problems when you try to sign in with Facebook. However, don't forget that this is a new app and developments are ongoing. I suggest signing in with your email and then inviting your friends at a later stage if you are pleased with the app. Mallzee has a little way to go in terms of development but it certainly has a handle on the future of online shopping - I can see it going a long way in the fashion world.

I'll let you make up your own mind as this app is free to download from all iphone/ipad app stores. Personally, for me, it's a big 'yes' to Mallzee.

My Weekly Wears

Everybody does it. So I thought I might as well give it a go. I'm not saying my style is anything particularly out of the ordinary or note-worthy but I thought it would be interesting to make sort of a fashion diary of the week if you will. So here it goes...

I'm pretty sure it was hot on this day! Anyways I'm wearing blazer by H & M, short crop top by

Topshop, shorts by Miss Selfridge (I hear flower-power is back in), shoes by Henri Llyod, 

sunglasses by New Look and bag by the Disney Store (oh yes)

I went for an arty feel today and wore a vintage grandad-shirt from my dad (!), vintage 

hair tie from my granny, dress and belt from Topshop and Faith hand-me-down boots

from my mum! It was a bit of a family affair really! With various assorted rings of course

I felt like slobbing out today so I went for: jacket from Topshop 12/12, t-shirt from Topshop,

jeans from French Connection and daps from Topshop (loving Topshop today clearly)

I love my midi skirts :) This one (plus the belt) is actually from a Forever 21 in Las Vegas

 (love that shop), t-shirt from H & M, shoes (see before) and haribo necklace from my dear friends 

at university (never actually asked where it was from!)

I do love my hats :) this one is from a thrift shop in Glasgow! t-shirt as before, trousers from

And I fiiiinally got the chance to paint my nails the other day so I went a bit crazy! I used a

nail pen from the Models Own range at Boots and then painted the tips light blue with a 

normal nail-polish from America 

How it's going down

So my jewellery business has been online for a few weeks now and I have to say the response has been really really great. There is no way that I expected some of the positive reactions I have been getting! It actually started as a way to make a bit of extra cash. I was really short on money and I had done the bar work, done the waitressing, done the pot-washing and the cleaning all before, never mind the fact that if I tried to get a job a month before leaving Durham I would get nowhere anyway. So my creative side (plus numerous procrastination hours on Etsy) persuaded me that I should try something new... I had been making the pieces a few weeks before anything went online and was incredibly nervous about the response that they might get and (knowing that my style isn't for everybody) whether they might have a bit too much 'Harri' in them.

I'm still very new and most of it is trial and error - I'm convinced there must be other pliers that I should be using! But as I say I'm incredibly grateful for the support that my pieces have been shown over the past few weeks. Most of the sales have been from close acquaintances which proves I need to extend my networking talons further, however the knowledge that my friends are willing to buy into my product and my designs is really gratifying and hopefully indicative of what is to come!

As for the style and design aspect of the necklaces I am going to try and keep along the same lines and stick to pastel colours mixed with various chains and edgy pendants. I am a big fan of spikes and studs so they may have to make an appearance at some point, I also love the layering of chains (as may be evident in some of my existing pieces) so will definitely stick with that too.

I would love to know what people think about including these

kinds of studs in my jewellery. I think I'm a bit blindsighted by my style!

CALL ME HARRI jewellery

I have recently started a new collection of handmade, unique statement jewellery. All of the pieces are one of a kind and offer a bit of my fashion sense (quirky and colourful). They range from £5 for a pair of earrings to £15 for a statement rose-gold curb chain necklace. Etsy is just about everything you could wish for in the ultimate internet shopping procrastination.
